  • A small dose of discipline

Productivity tips to get your day off to a great start

1. Your day starts the night before

To get a day off to a good start, it starts with the night before. Get to bed at a reasonable time and allow yourself at least 7 hours for a good night’s sleep. Pour yourself a glass of water you’re not going to drink through the night and leave it ready for the morning. Set yourself an alarm that gives you enough time to get yourself ready and have breakfast without having to rush to get anything done.

I tend to sleep best when I’ve done some sort of exercise after work. Also, I find it easier to fall asleep if I’ve stopped using my phone at least 60 minutes before bed. If you’re someone who struggles with sleep, we got you! Check out these tips for a good night’s sleep.

2. When the alarm sounds, no time to snooze, get up immediately!

Yep, that’s right. Get up immediately! This is where the small dose of discipline comes into play. Look, I get it. Getting up immediately from a warm bed is difficult but if you want to set your day up for success, you’ve got to do it! I find getting up immediately is a motivational hack. It sets the mood for the day by sending a message to your body that you want to get shit done! When I hit the snooze button and get up after the time I set my alarm, I always feel lethargic and lazy. Also, I struggle to be productive throughout the day!

It may be difficult at first, but once you’ve done it a few times you can really start to see the benefits.

3. As soon as you’re up, make your bed

As soon as you spring out of bed, make it! Sort your duvet out and fluff up your pillows. Once you’ve done this, the first task of the day is complete. It reaffirms to your body that you’re going to have a productive day! You’ll also thank yourself later when you come home to a made bed! Also, if you get the feeling that you haven’t achieved much during the day, you can think back to the productive morning you had to boost you through the rest of your day!

4. Once your bed is made, drink your water

Once your bed is made, drink the glass of water you left next to you! I know you’re probably thinking ‘What, my morning drink is coffee!’. You can still have your coffee, just not for your first drink of the day. Our body is made up of 80% water. Not coffee. For that reason alone I choose it as my first drink of the day. Not only does it hydrate you, but it also improves your blood flow, gives you natural energy, and improves your alertness! Roughly 10 minutes after drinking my first glass of water I genuinely feel more alert and ready to face whatever the day has in store…

Summary of productivity tips:

  1. Your day starts the night before – Set an alarm, pour your water, and get to bed at a reasonable time!
  2. When your alarm goes off get up – No time for snoozing, when that alarm sounds get the fuck up!
  3. Once you’re out of bed, make it! – Achieve the first task of the day by making your bed!
  4.  Drink your water! – Yep, ditch that morning coffee for a glass of water!
