Why Rock Bottom was founded
Hi, I’m Sam, the founder of Rock Bottom. We’re a men’s mental health blog with the aim to help men who struggle with their mental health, take action to improve it and live the life they’ve always wanted to live. But before we get started with all that, I wanted to share with you a bit of my story and why I started this. So, let’s begin…
First, I had to hit Rock Bottom
I won’t go too much into my early life as I’m sure we’ll dive deeper into that soon. But I will tell you this. In secondary school, I got bullied. This bullying led to me using it as an excuse to fuck my life up. It led me down a dark path of drink & drugs, which only got worse as I became increasingly unhappy with the life I’d built for myself. Roll on 2020, I was 22, addicted to multiple substances, a borderline alcoholic, a borderline gambling addict, and a party animal. The decisions I made that year lead to me having a tonic-clonic seizure in front of my parents. I lost the job I’d worked so hard to get because of the seizure. My life was a complete mess and my mental health an even bigger mess. I’d fully hit rock bottom.
Once you hit Rock Bottom, the only way is up!
Hitting rock bottom sparked a massive change for me. I decided to let go of the bullshit ruining my life, become the person I’ve always wanted to be, and build the life I’ve always wanted to live. I spoke to doctors who helped me understand that I was suffering from depression & anxiety and put a plan in place to help me recover. I had CBT therapy to help with the anxiety and spoke to counsellors to help me overcome my addictions. I also developed a healthy obsession with learning how to improve my mental health & develop as a person. And through my continued healing & learning process all I wanted to do was help & inspire people who have been in a similar situation to the one I was in. So i started this blog to share tips & tricks I’ve used to help transform my life to help you transform yours too!
